4 Spots in the Shoals to Visit If You Love Wine

Northern Alabama’s hot climate isn’t conducive to growing grapes, but these shops around town are pros at sourcing amazing wines from around the world.

The Carriage

Sheffield and Florence

With two locations in the Shoals, The Carriage wine shop and bar offers double the selection of bottles and two fun places to hang out. Both are open six days a week (closed Sundays) and offer contactless pickup from online orders, too. (Get 10% off when you buy six or more bottles). Rosé lovers especially will appreciate the wide selection, and you can pick up snacks like crackers, cheese and sausage to go with your sips.

360 Grille

Not only does this restaurant at Marriott Shoals Hotel have the best views in the region, revolving atop Renaissance Tower—it undoubtedly has among the most impressive wine lists. More than 140 bottles are available here, ranging from New World chardonnays and cabs to French Bordeauxs and Italian Barolos. The by-the-glass menu is admirable, too, including hard-to-find single pours like French Sancerre.

It may be known for its healthified take on a Southern meat-and-three, but Esther’s has a secret: This lunch spot in East Florence has a killer natural wine selection. Whether you’re into easy-drinking rosés or want to try something more adventurous (in that case, we suggest an orange wine or pét-nat), there’s always something new and fresh in stock. Picnicking? Grab canned wine singles from the cooler.
